Application

SIMATIC ET 200MP is a multifunctional distributed I/O system for a wide range of applications. Thanks to its scalable design, you can gear the I/O station exactly to the on-site requirements. SIMATIC ET 200MP is approved for the IP20 degree of protection and designed for installation in a control cabinet. Using the PROFIBUS interface module, the ET 200MP can also be integrated into existing systems without any problems.

Design

SIMATIC ET 200MP features a variable and scalable station design. The maximum configuration is 30 I/O modules with a max. of 512 input bytes and max. 512 output bytes per station.

The compact dimensions of the SIMATIC ET 200MP mean that it can be fitted without any problems in the existing mounting space of a SIMATIC S7-300 or ET 200M.

The overall width of the interface module and the individual I/O modules is 35 mm, modules with a width of 25 mm are also available.

The ease with which the modules can be joined using a U-connector saves time during installation. Installation is on an S7-1500 aluminum rail. This can be ordered in various lengths, including a 2-meter rail which you can shorten as desired to optimally use the space available. The integrated DIN rail allows snapping-on of many standard components such as additional terminals, miniature circuit breakers or small relays.

The I/O signals are connected via a 40-pin front connector. This permits the connection of wires with a cross-section from 0.25 mm2 to 1.5 mm2 (AWG 24 to AWG 16). Front connectors with screw-type terminals and push-in terminals are available for 35-mm modules; front connectors with push-in terminals are available for 25-mm modules.

To allow simple wiring of the front connector, it can be set to a “prewiring position”. In this position, the connector does not yet have any contact with the module. This position can also be used to make changes during operation. The user is supported by a printed cabling diagram on the inside of the front flap.

The mechanical coding prevents destruction of the electronics by accidental incorrect insertion. The result is a more fail-safe system.

The IM155-5 PN ST and IM 155-5 PN HF interface modules of the ET 200MP are designed such that a station can be equipped with up to 12 I/O modules. By adding a system power supply (PS), up to 30 I/O modules can be operated within one station. Simple retrofitting of I/O modules is thus possible without having to adapt and reconfigure the PROFINET network.

A system power supply (PS) is not required for the interface modules IM155-5 DP ST (PROFIBUS) and IM 155-5 PN BA (PROFINET). Here, up to 12 I/O modules can be operated within a station.

Labeling strips are available for the I/O modules of the SIMATIC ET 200MP. These DIN A4 sheets can be printed using a standard laser printer. An automatic printout can be produced from the TIA portal without having to reenter the symbols or addresses. The labeling strips are designed such that the assignment between the inscription and the channel or diagnostics display is 1:1. This 1:1 assignment between the inscription and the terminal is retained when the front flap is opened.

Interface module

The interface module connects SIMATIC ET 200MP to PROFINET or PROFIBUS and exchanges data between the higher-level controller and the I/O modules.

Various module classes are available to provide users with optimum scalability in their application. The modules themselves are labeled accordingly:

  • BA (Basic): Simple, cost-effective modules, without diagnostics and without parameters
  • ST (Standard): Modules with module-granular or load group-granular diagnostics and with parameters if applicable; for analog modules: Accuracy class 0.3 %
  • HF (High Feature): Modules with channel-granular diagnostics and parameter settings; for analog modules: Accuracy class 0.1 %, increased immunity and galvanic isolation
  • HS (High Speed): Modules with extremely short filter and conversion times for very fast applications; e.g. 8-channel analog modules with a conversion time of 125 µs

Advanced functions

Some modules feature extended functions which facilitate simple and low-cost entry into the technology functions.

The two High Feature digital input modules enable simple acquisition of count pulses with a frequency of up to 3 kHz on two of the 16 or 32 inputs.

The two 24 V digital High Feature modules have one integrated switching cycle counter per channel, which allows the number of switching cycles to be captured for a connected actuator. This means they can be replaced prior to the end of their service life to avoid downtimes and increase plant availability.

The 2 A digital output module has two channels which can be used for pulse width modulation (PWM) with a max. frequency of up to 500 Hz.

Extended functions are also available for analog modules:

The temporal resolution can be increased by “oversampling” in isochronous mode to enable finer resolution of the signal sequences.

The “Measuring range scaling” function enables the precise resolution of the measured signal around a specific operating point to several decimal places.

With “Process value scale”, a technological variable can be directly assigned to the analog value of the module. The conversion is made directly in the module, which saves power and cycle time in the CPU.

Simple and fast diagnostics using quality information directly in the user program

By activating the quality information (QI) of a module, the validity of the delivered process value can be directly scanned and evaluated in the user program. Access is possible using simple binary or load commands via the process image. A prerequisite is that the module has diagnostics capability and that the quality information was configured in the TIA Portal.

Installation

The ET 200MP has a design with front connectors (“quasi-permanent wiring”). The front connector is plugged onto the I/O module. When replacing a module, only the front connector must be released from the module. Rewiring of the actual signals is unnecessary. This guarantees fast replacement of modules. The integrated mechanical slot coding prevents inadvertent interchanging of the front connectors.

Function

A central controller can access the distributed I/O modules of the ET 200MP in the same way as central I/O modules via PROFINET or PROFIBUS.

Communication is carried out fully automatically between the I/O controller in the central controller and the ET 200MP. Internal data transfer is interference-free on shielded cables.

Comprehensive, channel-specific diagnostics with plain text messages enables location and elimination of system faults in the shortest possible time. Annoying plant downtimes belong to the past, and availability is significantly increased.

Configuration, parameterization and diagnostics

The ET 200MP can be configured and parameterized via the TIA Portal (integrated as of V12.0). Alternatively using other configuration tools with a GSD file:
