Strategic Collaboration deliver PLC-based AGL Control System to International Airports

ATG Airports, Siemens, and Parmley Graham have worked together for many years to deliver advanced PLC-based control systems that support the operational demands of major international aviation environments.

As a globally recognised leader in airfield lighting solutions, ATG Airports plays a key role in designing and delivering high-performance automation systems tailored to the complex requirements of modern airport operations. In environments where large volumes of aircraft movements take place daily, maintaining safety, precision, and reliability is essential. At the centre of these operations is the Aviation Ground Lighting (AGL) system — a critical infrastructure element that ensures aircraft can be safely guided in all operating conditions, around the clock.

To meet these challenges, ATG works closely with Siemens and Parmley Graham to deliver resilient, highly reliable control infrastructure capable of operating in demanding, mission-critical environments. These solutions can incorporate Siemens S7-1500 dual CPU H-systems for AGL safety logic, ET200 CPUs interfacing with airfield power equipment, and dual-redundant Modbus TCP LANs for secure communication. Systems are supported by robust Optical Transport Network (OTN) backbones to maximise reliability and uptime.

Parmley Graham, the UK’s No.1 independent supplier of factory automation and largest Siemens Platinum Partner, provides fully specified and compliant Siemens components ready for integration, supported by strong engineering expertise and dependable supply chain management that helps streamline project delivery.

Siemens’ automation technology, particularly the S7 series processors, is widely recognised for its proven performance in mission-critical applications. The systems offer high levels of scalability, reliability, and flexibility, making them ideally suited to the configuration-intensive nature of modern airport infrastructure.

“These projects showcase the strength of combining world-class technology with expert engineering and trusted supply chain partners,” said Chris McGuinness. “Together with Siemens and Parmley Graham, we continue to deliver future-ready solutions that enhance airfield safety and operational efficiency.”

Paul Dougal, Branch Manager at Parmley Graham, said: “We are proud to support these projects alongside ATG Airports and Siemens. This partnership demonstrates how shared engineering expertise and trusted collaboration can deliver resilient, future-ready infrastructure for some of the UK’s most critical aviation environments.”

This collaboration is a model for what mission-critical infrastructure delivery looks like: a globally recognised domain expert in ATG Airports, proven industrial automation technology from Siemens, and the supply chain and component expertise of Parmley Graham — all working in close partnership over many years.

The result is infrastructure that doesn’t just meet today’s demands. It’s built to scale with the future of aviation.
