The challenge
When Carlisle College approached PK Engineering about building them their own fully automated process line, they were keen to help the next generation of engineering talent to develop.
To enable students to gain skills in fault diagnosis, the college had decided on a Siemens control architecture based around TIA Portal. However, a knowledge gap around the current PLC on the market led to PK contacting Parmley Graham.
Identifying the solution
When Carlisle College approached PK Engineering about building them their own fully automated process line, they were keen to help the next generation of engineering talent to develop.
To enable students to gain skills in fault diagnosis, the college had decided on a Siemens control architecture based around TIA Portal. However, a knowledge gap around the current PLC on the market led to PK contacting Parmley Graham.
The results
After the required groundwork, the design concept was agreed. It was to include a wide variety of industrial control and automation kit along with varied communication protocols incorporating Profinet, ASi and IO Link. The system also incorporated 6 Siemens TP700 HMIs and 2 PC Control Stations running WinCC Advanced Runtime software.
The manufacturer visits and PK’s expertise as an integrator in the area proved central to the completion of the project and giving the college their own fully automated line to inspire engineers of the future.
