Technology
WinCC Unified has been completely redesigned and is using native web technologies such as HTML5, SVG and JavaScript. This enables access to visualization from any modern web browser, without the need to install additional plug-ins. The enginering tool is the TIA Portal.
Scalability
WinCC Unified offers a fully scalable scope of functions, from the machine-level application up to a large distributed SCADA system. HMI Projekte or parts of the project can be re-used from a machine near level to a SCADA application..
Everywhere
Due to the modern architecture, it will be possible to execute functionalities of WinCC Unified in different environments. In addition to the classic “OnPremise” applications, WinCC Unified can also be executed in the edge or cloud environment in the future. With the first version, WinCC Unified is available for panel and PC-based solutions. The use in the edge and cloud environment will be possible with a following delivery stage.
Openness (integration platform)
On the basis of the modern architecture it will be possible to execute functionalities of WinCC Unified in various environments. Apart from the classic “on-premise” application cases, in future WinCC Unified will also be executable in the Edge or Cloud environment.
In its initial version, WinCC Unified is available for panel- and PC-based solutions. Its use in the Edge and Cloud environment will be possible with a subsequent delivery stage.

Notes on licensing the engineering software
Every customer who buys a license for WinCC Comfort V19, WinCC Advanced V19 or WinCC Professional V19 or receives it as part of the Software Update Service (SUS) can use the corresponding WinCC Unified version free of charge.
Licence compatibilty
A WinCC Unified ES can be installed by parallel with a WinCC Advanced ES on one computer. Valid licenses for a WinCC Unified ES can also be used for engineering a WinCC Advanced (and vice versa).
A WinCC Unified ES cannot be installed parallel to a WinCC Professional ES on a computer. Valid licenses for a WinCC Unified ES can also be used for engineering a WinCC Professional (and vice versa). To do this, the licenses must be transferred to the WinCC Professional ES computer.
